The Kite Runner is my favourite book I've read this year, as well as being one of the best books I have read throughout my life. The reason is that the story is so accessable to anyone reading it. Throughout the novel, Amir is haunted by a trumatic event that happens to a friend of his during his childhood, and the novel follows his attempt to accept his actions, himself, and to let go. Besides the beutiful writing, this is something that we must face on a daily basis: how to accept our actions and how they shape us as a person. In Amir's case, this involves his journey to Afghanistan to try to atone for his actions as well as to recconnect with his former life and the people he has hurt, and an eventual acceptance of himself as a person. The Kite Runner is more than this story, however. Amir's life is set against the backdrop of Afghanistan, and as Amir changes and grows, Afghanistan changes.
