Going into this projet at the begining of the year, I started with three essential questions:
I hope that I can now answer these three questions with some sort of insight.
There are many different things that make a good book, including an interesting/original idea, good prose, and the use of imagery to create vivid things that stay with us as readers, but all of these are obvious. What truley makes a great book, and is something that I believe can be applied to all of the books that I've read this year is that they contain something increadible, beit an idea, theme, or just a story, that somehow affects us increadibly deepley. This is what truley makes good literature. Generally these books that resonate with us in a certain way are those books that become classics. Although there may be more popular books at the time, they are not necessarily well written or increadibley thought-provoking, and are invariabley replaced over time by these books that are. Finally we continue to read the books that we enjoy and that make us feel this way, simpley because we enjoy the effect they have on us. The popular books that may or may not be of any quality do not touch us in the way that these books do, and, although I did not read as many novels as I would have liked to this year, I was reminded of the fact that a good piece of literature is an increadible thing.
- What makes a great book?
- Why do soke books become classics and others don't?
- Why do we continue to read certain books?
I hope that I can now answer these three questions with some sort of insight.
